Barrett Thomas is the Principal and Co-founding Attorney of Lighthouse Legal Services, PLLC (formerly Blanchard & Thomas, PLLC). Barrett is an award-winning experienced investigator and litigator with over 22 years of law enforcement and legal experience. He is a former First Assistant District Attorney and Chief of Police. Barrett left criminal prosecution in 2015 to use his investigative skills and trial acumen for the benefit of his many family and criminal law clients. His keen intellect and courtroom ability have resulted in the growth of the Firm to over 20 employees across 6 cities and representation of clients in most areas of law.
Prior to opening LLS, Barrett earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech University, a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Tarleton State University, a Bachelor’s from Hardin-Simmons University, and both a Master’s Peace Officer and Instructor’s Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
Barrett has given back to his profession and community through service as a Director of the State Bar of Texas; a Director on the Texas Bar Foundation; President of the Texas Young Lawyers Association; President of the Hardin-Simons University Board of Alumni; a Member of the Region 8 Grievance Committee for the State Bar of Texas; and a Director for the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children. He has also continued to serve as a volunteer guest lecturer and instructor at various colleges and law enforcement academies.
Barrett has been recognized for his personal and professional successes by being named a SuperLawyer by Super Lawyers® Magazine year after year; one of the “Best in Waco” for the last 6 years; an Outstanding Young Alumnus of Hardin-Simmons University in 2019; a member of the Leadership Waco Class of 2018; and the Graduate of the Last Decade (G.O.L.D.) award from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2017. He was voted the Outstanding Young Lawyer in 2014 by the Abilene Young Lawyers Association, and received the Bob Black Bar Leaders award from Texas Tech University School of Law in the same year.
